Game Freak had issue with the design because of "muh violence in children game" even though pokemon is basically a game where you need to kill other people's pets in order to progress.

It allowed us to get the subtle designs that Remoraid and Octillery are instead of "in your face" garbage like nu-pokemon designs are, so that's a good thing

The underlying idea of pokemon fight has always been "violence solves your problems". You need to be extremely stupid to deny this. Saying that Pokémon franchise isn't violent is the same as denying that PokeSpe exists.

There's good subtle and bad subtlety, and the gun/tank motifs aren't communicated at all in the final designs. "In your face" is what Pokemon is good at at, subtlety has never been something this franchise was able to do well.

Pokemon battles are not violence, they're a sport. Nobody dies or gets hurt in them, so they're not violent.
