What do you think about my slabs? I got each of them for under $20 about 10 years ago, sent them for grading around 2016. Got loads of more cards to grade when PSA is done with their backlog.

My main collction is mostly japanese because I like them more than english, but I do have a quite large english collection.

I bought Zoroark illustrator and Victory ring purely because it was a low pop card and would increase in price over time, they are now at 7k and 10k. Rayquaza because its a cool card, bought it for $10, graded PSA10 is worth like 6k. The Arceus's I did because its my favorite pokemon, and I think the medal cards are neat.

Yeah, it's 7 packs for like $25 so a good cost ratio. It's all Sword and Shield era packs too. Plus you get one of the Eeveelutions GX promos.

Been out and about today and managed to buy this from a Dollar Tree. A sealed case of the 3-pack Dollar Tree exclusive packs.

It was like $85 dollars I think. Just asked if I could buy the box and keep it sealed and paid the price of whatever the 60 packs are plus tax. I think $1.50 each? I got a sealed box of Unified Minds 3-packs from this same Dollar Tree so I've had good luck there.

I opened all 3 of the Costco 2-packs and the packs were Sword & Shield Base, Rebel Clash, Vivid Voltage, Battle Styles and Darkness Ablaze if I remember correctly. I saw on a Facebook group that they were in-stock so you'll probably have to visit your Costco in person. They were just on a pallet by the entrance in mine. Last month they had the 5-pack Kanto Power Tin Collections as well with Cosmic holo promos so I think it's worthwhile to go and check every once and a while.

That cost is in leaf bux. The tin/Pokeballs 2-pack is exclusive to Canada Costco right now. So if you want to open for cheap they're you're best option.

I want to complete a set of Double Crisis, and want to start with the EX Groundon and Kyogre. The chinks didn't make fake cards from this set did they? It looks like every listing involving those 2 cards in particular have cards in absolute trash condition.

I only like the /102 cards i had when i was young. Bought the remaining ones a few days ago, will have 102/102 near mint soon enough. What are some good ones i can buy to keep in a safe for my son? He is just a baby so i figure id leave him some cards for when he is 20 or so. Maybe first edition 8 PSA chansey? Any advice appreciated. I can spend 1-2k usd for now.

Why not just cultivate the same feeling you have for base set cards? When he gets older just start opening packs with him, and out some of those rare cards aside. Then when he is an adult you can show him and share in some of that nostalgia together.

For pure investment purposes just out sealed product aside for the future. Their ROI is higher and faster growing than singles.

It's funny because if you read around other sites a lot of people legit think modern is gonna blow up in 20 years and people will be nostalgic again like they are/were for Base and other earlier sets. I could be wrong but I just don't see it happening the same way. Part of the 'experience' was collecting and playing around with Pokemon cards in the late 90s/00s with your friends and not buying 100 boxes and putting in your closet just to sit on it. It just doesn't have the same effect or the same rarity tied to it because now everyone is basically doing the same thing.

You're remembering the feeling of nostalgia that you had for opening packs as a child, bringing your binder to school, showing and comparing cards with your friends, and trading. But because you're an adult, but don't have kids (I'm assuming), you fail to recognize that there are children right now that are doing the literal same shit that we did 20 years ago.

I can make this assumption because I have a young nephew who is absolutely obsessed with Pokemon. He just turned 5, and all he wants is Pokemon shit. It'll likely be this way for many more years as he only gets more educated and more invested in the series in the form of the tcg and eventually the main games when he can read well.

He's getting packs right now, and in 20 years time his generation will be pining over how they really want that RayVMAX Alt Art.

In contrast, our generation now has disposable income and is able to purchase the cards we never were able to snag as a child. And you just remember us as kids playing pokemon and thinking it's just a children's card collectable. Yet in reality, adults knew Pokemon was going to be huge -- some took a "small" gamble, sure -- but it was obvious that holding cards for the future was a safe and relatively low cost investment.

Adults that loved collectables were buying up cards and packs left and right in the late 90s because they knew this day would come. You just remember us kids playing but failed to realize that childless adult manchildren were doing exactly what we're doing now.

Evidence of this is how 1st edition cards were no longer printer after 2001/2002. This stopped because collectors ONLY would be purchasing 1st edition packs/boxes, leaving unlimited packs unsold. Ultimately, this ended up DEVALUING 1st edition cards because it's the only thing people purchased. This happened 20 years ago.

Re: the 404 thing. I think pokemon center is just putting them online in preparation for opening orders. Just keep checking back, hopefully they don't sell out immediately, but if it's anything like the Evolving Skies Pokemon Center ETBs they'll be released for preorder in small batches that sell out in minutes.

Theres your problem. ETBs are garbage. Absurdly high pack/price ratio, garaunteed nothing, tons of actual garbage thrown in. If you had just gotten two booster boxes youd for sure gotten at least one secret rare and most likely an alt art for less money.

I buy exactly one ETB to open per set and only because I like keeping my bulk in themed boxes. The rest goes to the basedboys for profit.

I ask because I'm trying to remember my childhood collection, and reconcile that with modern packs. Every pack that I open now has a guaranteed reverse holo, and a guaranteed rare. Was that always the case (not the reverse holo part, I know that was introduced later)?

Like, did packs always contain a rare card in them? Even all the way back to base set?

Either they didn't. Or I just didn't open as many packs as I think I did as a child. Because I should have had like close to +50 holo cards based on how many packs I "think" I opened as a kid and the odds of each rare being a holo.

Okay, unfortunately a lot of the stuff was slightly damaged. More than I could tolerate (mainly because I was looking for original series or Neo cards, so it makes sense that the singles weren't mint).

I did purchase a WOTC promo pikachu that I'll post. But I did come across this Ereader Octillery and it caught my eye. I couldn't really find anything particularly wrong with it on the front or back. I'd say an easy NM if not higher.

Lololol, ya. I did a quick scan and everything seemed in line with online prices. I'm still learning what each grading level represents, and the associated damage one should expect to find with it. So my experience there is lacking -- but I'm sure will grow and improve with time.

Here's the Pika. I liked the WotC stamp, the 1st ed badge, and the fact that he's fat. The little blemish on the left side is just on the sleeve. This is the sleeve that it came in at the store, I haven't had a chance to transfer it to my own sleeves yet.

Ya, back is pretty much the same. Very slight blemishes if one is being nit-picky. Or else it's in quite good condition. Very pleased considering how long it must have been circulating for in just some sleeves.

While at the card shop my gf and I decided to purchase some packs and ended up pulling the Rayquaza V Alt card. It's really coincidental since I had actually considered purchasing the regular version of this card today as a single at the card shop, but decided not to and instead just get the Pikachu.

We pulled the VMAX Alt art in late August (not today lol), and couldn't believe when we pulled the V alt today. Gf said she wants a plush toy of Fug...

Does anyone have any images of the machines they use to seal packs? Crimped cards seem to go for a dollar+ each, I'm making a crimper to try and manufacturer some from random bulk cards, might be able to make a nice profit. Buy good cards. in good condition(mint/nearmint nice so its not left up to you're dumb interpretation of what good means). get them for a good deal. take care of them properly. with sleeve and top loader. storing them in a good location.
buing sub par cards, graded or ungraded is just buying someone elses problem. when being a collector you should take into account the quality and condition. not just seeing the dollars. or by your logic the pennies you will make off shit cards.

It really depends on the grader. Im pretty sure PSA doesn't recognize OC cards like this and would give this a low centering grade as >>48165688 jokes. You need to look around (best bet is in an error collecting FB group) and see which graders do recognize this on their label.

Thanks, anon. I've never sent anything out for grading before, but extremely considering it for these two. I'm sure I will eventually, but from anons here it seems like most grading services are extremely backed up and pricey at the moment. If I have no intention of selling anything in the near future (but may in a few years), is there any reason to getting graded immediately?
