everytime I read this excuse it makes me feel I was so intelligent for my age when I played Red version as a 8 years old who knew how to use my team effectively.
The only dumb things I was doing is teaching HMs to my starter and only teaching STAB moves

Red in the manga somehow won against Brock's ground-types with his Pikachu. Ash did the same thing but at least it was a result of the sprinklers in the anime.

To be fair, we dont know what Tajiri think of special after it went full fanfic instead of actually adapting the game.
I think Tajiri is just fine with whatever as long as it produce money, or he would actually be involved on anything or say something.
