>>48159386Alder actually DOES things, though: he travels the region constantly and wanders from place to place, helping new up-and-coming trainers and inquiring them as to what they want to do. He's also responsible for Cheren suddenly rethinking his life when Alder points out to him that just wanting to be the champion for the sake of being the champion isn't a very fulfilling or good goal and he should prioritize what he wants to do in life. He also participates in the plot. Alder's primary problem is that, because no one's gotten past the Elite Four in years, he's extremely out of practice and has spent a lot of his time effectively goofing off instead of doing his duties seriously; this bites him in the ass when N storms the place and he has to put himself on the line seriously for the first time in years (and, obviously, gets absolutely wrecked). He's got a great personality and I really enjoyed him. Is he the best champion? Fuck no, but I don't think it's fair to call him the worst when there's ones far worse than he is.
The only thing I actively hated about Alder was his actual boss fight, because his Champion Team is just...kinda pathetic besides his Volcarona. Even in Black and White 2, his post-game boss fight's team is just kinda ok. Alder does obtain a fucking amazing team eventually in B2W2, keeping his two main Pokemon in Volcarona and Braviary and having the rest of his four slots be filled out with Pokemon that symbolize the rest of the elite four (Reuniclus, Conkeldurr, Chandelure and Krookidile) for an extremely awesome line up. The problem is YOU CAN NEVER FIGHT IT NORMALLY, because it's exclusive to the fucking PWT, and you'll never be able to face him like a typical boss fight with the actually good team that had effort put into it: the most you can do is a 3v3 singles (though I'll give him credit, he's programmed to always lead Volc in the PWT, so props to him for instantly sending out his ace I guess).
Dianthia's easily the worst, though.
