It was later on that the narrative had to shift. I mean, check OP itself for instance, they group games with mega evolutions in the "mega evolution timeline" isolated from games without megas. The notion that a game had to have megas to be in that timeline was(among other things again) what started this. Hence later the fellow "original/classic" and "advanced" timelines being devised by "fans".
