What exactly defines a shillmon? Is it a marketable Pokemon? A popular Pokemon?

I've never heard anyone call say, Snorlax a shillmon and yet he's incredibly popular Pokemon who has merchandise out the ass, got his own Z-move, and a Gigantimax form.

So why are Charizard and Lucario shillmons and Snorlax isn't?

People naturally came to love Gengar and Snorlax without shilling though.

Although with that in mind, that might make Charizard's status as a shillmon up for debate because kids naturally loved Charizard back in the day. Although the special treatment he gets even over the other two Kanto starters is cancer. Some of us started with Squirtle and Bulbasaur.

Marketable, popular, in a lot of merch, films, and crossover/spinoff games. It's a mix of these 3. Pokemon like Lucario, Jigglypuff, Charizard etc.

"Shillmon" refers to solely how much it is pushed by TPC/Game Freak, whether or not its initial popularity was natural is irrelevant.

Zoroark when Unova had far more standout/well received designs
but it's more so the absolutely dumbfuck decisions surrounding Zoroark that fucked its chances and not the mon itself - it could have easily taken off if they had actually done it right
