I honestly didn't mind it at all. I roatated between using a Pidove, Lillipup, and Munke for my 2nd team member, then I caught Sawk, Throh, or Tympole usually, or I would wait to catch Venipede. I try to space out adding my team members.

The distance between Accumula Town and the gym is not that far enough for a need to have a full team already. Besides, why would you want a useless shitmon bug that falls off the team by the second gym?

Purrloin is the only bad one there though. Lilipup and its evos can be useful in your party for a long while and Patrat/Watchog provide some very early cheese before dropping off around Burgh.

This is unironically the kind of design intention that people love to defend Johto with. They put the usual forest and cave after gym 2 instead of around gym 1 and it limits early options but opens up a ton once you get there.

no, people cry about johto because they're autists who want to use only new pokemon. The actual pokemon variety is fine. Also the cave in johto isn't after gym 2, you can optionally go to dark cave before violet city.

As has been explained millions of times, Gen 2 does not run like later gens which are just rehash in design. You weren't expected to use only new Pokemon. The "Gen 2" mons are just an addition to supplement, and made rare to encourage exploration and excitement.

Not that anon but locking gen 2 pokemon for the post game is a big flaw, and doesn't help with exploration. Houndour could've been at the burned tower and Misdreavus could've been at the bell sprout tour or the burned tower
