the artist who designed Dragonite isn't the same one who designed Dratini/Dragonair and Kanto was full of pokemon who got linked together without much thinking

I was gonna this too. They could've kept it blue, given it a long ass tail (to give an impression of a serpentine body), and kept the eyes from its previous evolutions

Looking back, there are a lot of weirdly redundant pokemon in gen 1. Dragonite and Charizard are pretty much are the same shit.
