Seriously, why did they do that?!
A whole marketing campaign in 2010 about Shiny Pichu being Pikachu Colored, and now this is how Shiny Pichu looks.

It was supposed to be a specific Pichu that was friends with the Spiky ear Pichu.
It's like how the Gyarados from the Lake of Rage is often called the Red Gyarados instead of the shiny Gyarados.
They never really did anything with the Pichu though. I still wonder if it was some kind of aborted arc for the anime.

They appeared in the Arceus movie. It and Spiky Eared Pichu basically served as the face for some of the Gen 4 Pokémon shorts in Japan, kind of as replacements for Pichu Bros. I don't think they ever dubbed the shorts either which is kind of annoying.

Only Spiky eared Pichu appeared in those.
The shiny Pichu didn't appear in anything except an ending animation.

Yeah. But the point isn’t the fact they don’t call it like that anymore. The problem here is that the newer renditions of shiny Pichu don’t have Pikachu colors anymore. Just darker Pichu’s.
