I don’t understand all the hate around Garbodor? It’s introduced in a region based of New York City which has one on the largest trash problems in the world. Especially like when Pokémon like Muk and Grimer exist

Also they didn’t just take a garbage bag and our eyes on it, they made it unique.

Usually when I come across a new pokemon I like, I want to add it to my team because I think it's cute, or sleek, "cool," interesting in some way, etc. Garbador doesn't check any boxes for me. Trubbish was kind of cute but I think that's lost in its evolution, but Garbador doesn't have anything that really stands out. It doesn't look tough, it doesn't look like it would be very fun to use, I find it weird how it has a perfect circle for a mouth with very crudely drawn teeth, like how a child would draw teeth on a monster, and instead of going into any detail in the trash, we have these weird pink and blue shapes here and there. It basically looks too childish for me, as in gamefreak softened it way too much to cater to a children's audience.

That's because of Garbodor's japanese name. In japanese its name has something to do with dust so the concept is a trashbag basically full of dust, but with some other shit in it. I really want to know what those pink and blue shapes are though It doesn't look like anything specifically... Maybe if they had put a fresh water bottle or something there istead of those it would look better. idk,

Not an argument since Gen 5’s entire gimmick was that most of its new mons were just reskinned Gen 1 mons but worse:

Probably the only Gen 5 mons that were upgrades from their Gen 1 counterparts were the regional bugs and fossils, but only because the Gen 1 bugs and fossils were notoriously shitty for years (power-wise, not design-wise).

I was about to hunt you down, but you redeemed it at the last second. Omastar and Kabutops are some of the best Pokemon designs period. But gen 1 is infamous for treating pokemon like creatures first rather like battle tools first (imo the right thing to do, but they still executed it poorly and the phys/spec split was absolutely necessary). And thus their movepools were doo doo, like most mons.

These are all better than the original. Roggenrola is a unique monster that feels like an animated rock rather than just some grey Kirby enemy aged fifty years and organically builds upon that rather than whatever the fuck happened to Graveler and Golem.
Munna and Musharna tie effortlessly into Unova's worldbuilding with their connection to the Dream Mist. They're a lot more interesting than your fatbalds while still executing the same concept of a Baku in a different fashion.
The Tympole line not only does the transition from tympole to frog better than Poliwag, but the evolution never feels as weird as either Poliwhirl to angry Poliwhirl or sudden cutesy frog.

A lot of newer Pokemon, Garbador included, are both high-concept and the most literal and unimaginative possible version of that concept.

Ideas are cheap. You, the person reading this, probably have a dozen great ideas for Pokemon in your head. It's the execution that matters. Being able to get what Game Freak was going for doesn't automatically mean the design is good.

At least Trubbish is cute.

I don't agree with this though. The concept may not have mass appeal but the design isn't particularly bad. It's one of many pokemon that have a sort of silly charm to them.

The concept of a tadpole Pokemon that stays as a tadpole instead of becoming a frog is great. The culmination of that line literally just being the previous form but angry is awful however.

Poliwrath should still be a tadpole, it should just also be one that is visually distinct from Poliwhirl (or just get rid of Poliwhirl and make the line a two-stage).

My take on the image. The crabs are the only ones I found just as good in both generations. If mandibuzz's first stage didn't exist it would be equal to fearow.
