You can take photos with your whole team. Its a simple thing but it makes such a good feature, to capture your journey, what pokemon did you used back then.

Johto is the most freeform region. The plot has very little presence, it's mainly just me on a Pokémon journey with my Pokémon, in a region that's nice to explore because of secrets and nonlinearity.

Currently completing my dex before Red fight in Crystal.
I love the variety of Pokémon especially in Crystal. I love tuning into Buena's password everyday and getting my free point. I love exploring the Ruins of Alph and listening to the eerie interference on the radio. I love the open world aspect to it that Tajiri envisioned. I love the lack of hand holding. I love how Johto is kind of creepy. I love getting my Apricorn balls from Kurt. I love bug catching contests. I love rematching old trainers during my journey and raising all my Pokémon day by day. I love the Elite Four being a challenge the first time.

Oh I also love how the game rewards you for backtracking old areas like Union Cave, Slowpoke Well, Dark Cave, etc. right after getting new HMs.

Don’t all Pokémon games have small towns though, fuck even SwSh does it with that mushroom place (at least GSC has the excuse of being on a cartridge with less space than this comment)

I love that it has a better level curve than Galar or Alola (pic related). I also love that it doesn't have any of Galar's "QoL improvements" that ruin the sense of adventure and basically turn Pokemon into a shittier version of YuGiOh.
