have you ever seen pokemon actually acknowledged as a nintendo property besides in smash bros? the farthest weve ever got was those pikachu mario bros plushies and the pokemon splatfest, but nothing beyond that. even animal crossing and splatoon got microgames in warioware before pokemon did, its mindboggling

Nintendo will slap one of their franchise's names on just about anything, but Pokemon is a special case since The Pokemon Company manages it, and they're very stingy about what they're willing to attach Pokemon license to.

Its not techincally fully theirs, its shared with outside companies(TPC and GF, don't recall if Creatures too). Kirby and FE neither, which is why many nintendo promotion material is mario, zelda, dk and splatoon which are 100% developed by then.

Pokemon is second party, it's not made in house like Animal Crossing or Splatoon is, if that wasn't obvious enough.
Even if Nintendo owns some of Pokemon, they likely still need to sign contracts and pay money or something to TCPI. I remember Sakurai talking about how even just getting Pikachu in Smash took some effort.

What ARE Pokemon's crossovers? Nothing comes to mind that's not, say, some sort of clothiing line or a collab with some musician or something. For the life of me I cannot think of anything like Pokemon x fuckin, Finial Fantasy or whatever. You don't even really see Pokemon in other Nintendo games, what have they collabed with in the past, if at all? Smash Bros aside, obviously.

Are you dense? Sakurai just puts whoever TCPI tells him to, that's why we got Lucario with the most uninspired moveset of all time. After that it was just the shillmon of the generation again and again.

lucarios moveset is about as inspired as pikachu but unlike most low tiers he has a meaningful combo game and is able to cause some upsets, pretty well designed if you ask me

He relies too heavily on aura. Compare Lucario in Smash to Lucario in Pokken and Unite and you'll see what I mean.

Smash acts like aura is all Lucario has and iconic "Lucario" moves like Bone Rush are completely missing. This was understandable in Brawl, but two games later, Lucario should be closer to how he is in Pokemon

Nintendo has an entire Space universe they could use between Metroid, F-Zero, and Star Fox and they never cross those over besides maybe a ship cameo or reference. You're misinterpreting inspiration for function.
Lucario's interpretation in Smash is probably some of the worst out of anyone because everything he does is completely made up.
Aura's "more damage = more power" has absolutely nothing to do with how Lucario behaves in any incarnation, and isn't even Aura's actual ability, moves like Force Palm also make no sense and there's even a generic counter to cap it off.
After coming from Pokemon Trainer, who's probably the single best instance of taking a turn based game's mechanics and adapting them to a fighter, Lucario reeks of cooperate meddling and Sakurai just throwing a bad gimmick on a character it doesn't fit.

There's also Conquest, Picross, Pokken and the MD series which are pokemon utilizing a different game formula so you might count those as crossovers but you don't get pokemon characters interacting with other characters either.

Sakurai always decides the roster before the start of development. With Pokemon though, he sets aside a "Pokemon slot" before he talks with TPC to decide which Pokemon it's going to be. He obviously does this because new playable Pokemon = more sales from Pokemon fans

sakurai and his goonies obviously has a clear vision of how he should play, which is why he plays completely different than any other character in the cast, inspiration is more than jamming as many references in a character as possible

Are you fucking dumb? Lucario revolves around Aura, Aura in Smash is 100% made up and nothing like how it behaves ingame or in the movie or anything else Lucario related. As a character, he's horribly represented. Yes his moveset functions, but it's not a Lucario moveset, it's just a generic moveset with Lucario plastered over it.

The issue is Lucario has zero references to how he actually behaves in anything outside of Aura Sphere which is as standard as projectiles can get.

While I do agree with this argument, I can't help but feel disgusted by using it as an argument for Lucario because that is the worst designed, most unintuitive character in Smash and probably the least used in Ultimate. Even Swordfighter gets more love.

People just now realized that Gamefreak is "just" second-party developer of Nintendo and big N have little to not imput into this franchise, lol.
Fact is that TPC easily could ditch Nintendo... and seeing how they put more into merchandise and mobile market i would not be surprised if that's what they are trying to do lol. Nintendo is just needed for releasing games on Nintendo consoles but if TPC will ditch that for more mobile and PC...

Yes, and Lucario doesn't do this

How Lucario fights in Smash is nothing like how it's shown fighting anywhere else. When it comes to how they would fight, Pokemon is one of the few franchises in Smash that actually has source material other than video games to draw from. Pokemon has an entire 1000+ episode anime showing how Pokemon fight, but Lucario draws nothing from there except his voice.

I agree, the problem is Lucario in smash is nothing like how he is in any other medium. Show me where its stated anywhere that Aura powers him up. Aura has always been some sort of spidey sense, x-ray vision echolocation type deal, it was never a combat ability. Aura makes no sense the way it behaves in Smash, its entirely made up.
There's taking creative liberties with a character's moveset, and then there's making a character's identity revolve around something that has nothing to actually do with the character. It'd be like if Pikachu started slinging around grass type attacks and people tried to justify it by saying it's Hidden Power or something.
