Honestly you're better off screening with a different mon anyway in case you've gotta send in cloyster against a special attacker. Lapras makes up for weaker defense overall with higher HP, but put Lapras and Cloyster in any physically defensive position and it's out classed. Atk and spec atk are basically the same. So Lapras only really has an up on cloyster special defensively. Water absorb is really good if you can predict switch right. But no crits is equally beneficial, maybe not competitively but certainly in game. Crits break clean strats fast. Lapras ranks higher because it has wider functionality. I'm certain you don't understand coverage, because thunderbolt doesn't cover any of Lapras' weaknesses. Sing is hardly worth the accuracy, and confuse ray in game isn't reliable. You can put curse and icy wind on cloyster to buff ice shard and drop your opps speed. Which I'm fairly sure you can do it on cloyster too, but it only proves cloyster functionality. But maybe I was wrong that Lapras outclasses it, but cloyster in game in hgss absolutely is functional.
