Compare that to Alola, where you're blocked off from everything that isn't the next objective with very little exception and when you finally do get some agency in where to explore it's only because you got arbitrarily handed something at some arbitrary point.
Pokeride doesn't feel earned. Secret Techniques do. There's a big difference even though to a blind eye they seem like the same shit.
