Never forget, Pokémon Blue Version outsold Pokémon Red in the US. According to Bulbapedia: “In the United States, Pokémon Red has sold 4.83 million copies, while Pokémon Blue has sold 5.02 million copies.” This is clear proof that there was a time Blastoise was just as, if not marginally more popular than Charizard as a mascot for the series, before the heavy marketing pushes that favored Charizard, such as him being featured so heavily in the anime, being a desirable chase card time and again in the TCG, becoming playable in Smash Bros. in 2008, etc. But when you strip away all the marketing designed to influence the taste of fans, and look back to the original era of Pokémon where fans were left to make choices for themselves, the truth is clear. Hail to the true king.

>>48209235 Pokemon Sword & Shield sold 21 million copies. This means Zacian & Zamazenta are more popular than Charizard & Blastoise.

>>48209271 I’d agree if not for the fact that total media involving Charizard and Blastoise has surely outsold Sword and Shield. I know you were joking but you do at least realize the exponential growth of popularity in Pokémon and that one day everything you love and recognize about Pokémon will have been fully eclipsed by the latest generation

I had Blue, but always picked Charizard. Not like the kids were the ones buying the game. The parents probably just bought whatever one was there. Blue is also most peoples favorite color. See Pokemon Go where Team Mystic had as many peole as Valor + Instinct combined in the beginning.

>>48209235 Couldn't possibly be because, if a game has to be monochrome, blue is a prettier color than red. No, it has to be because of Blastoise.
