I skipped out on SWSH for obvious reasons, but I'm definitely getting Legends, and probably Pearl. I'm getting Pokemon Bank and Home ready, and checking the prices and benefits, Home is $16 a year? When Bank was $5? For a service that should be free in the first place?

Is this even worth it? What happens to my pokemon when the "premium plan" runs out? Are there any other exclusive benefits aside from storage?

No. HOME has arguably less features and functionality than Bank, the only difference is that they cut the GTS from the games to make you use the phone app instead.
Oh, that's the other thing. You need to constantly save and quit and switch the apps. You can only organize on the switch version but you can't trade on the phone version. Gotta redeem the gifts it gives you on the phone version but you can't transfer unless you're on the Switch.
Home is a big fat shit on Iwata's legacy.

Well do note that BDSP will more than likely feature cutting out anything that appears after Arceus in the dex, which means that sending 'Mons like the Unova or Kalos starters will be a one-way trip. I'm guessing PLA will be a one-way trip as well being a spin-off title in a similar fashion to the Let's GO games.

TL;DR: fuck the modern standard, I am not leaving Alola until this series gets its shit together again. I'm not going to incarcerate my ninja frogs for years. Fuck that

Home is only worth it if you are a living dex fag, the only thing it has over bank is that it finally shows you if a pokemon is shiny or if it has a gender difference right on the box without having to go into the stat screen, it also has all the little icons that mark from what game a pokemon comes from, it will also be the only place that stores the new hisuian forms so if you want your full living dex that' the only place to have it

I also hate that HOME is the only place for the GTS. Like, why even remove it from the games?

With Bank anything you put in can be taken back out and every pokemon is compatible with each game that came out after and transferred, so nothing was ever forced to stay in Bank.
But for a couple hundred pokemon that where transferred from Bank into Home (while it was free so you wouldn't have to pay $5 to transfer later) they are stuck there for an unknown amount of years until they become available, and some could be waiting past bdsp/la to get out

Its a scam, but the only way to get that functionality, so its up to you. I only pay when I decide to make a batch transfer(almost never) and make do with Go+free box
