It was unironically this and I don't even give a shit about the Battle Frontier.
We haven't gotten a game that's just "good" that checks all the boxes since ORAS, and ORAS was still a shit remake that was half of what it should have been.
Gen 7 could have given us better animations, balancing, and QOL. Instead it went in the complete opposite direction and didn't tie up any of the loose ends from Gen 6, then they started the whole KANTOOOO wank and arbitrary decision to make an exclusive gimmick for every new region to excuse them not wanting to actually balance it like they did with megas.
I'm glad BDSP and Legends seem to be inching in the right direction, but I'm still disappointed.

I think it's fine if the game is designed around the universal exp share like USUM. SM was a bit too easy even with it off but USUM does not fuck around if you turn it off. Babies can keep it on and more experienced players can play with it off, it was perfect. Too bad SwSh messed it up

Exp Share and Amie/Refresh were bad additions that the game didn't balance around, basically forcing you to not use them if you want anything even resembling a challenge.

SwSh removed the ability to ignore exp share, and also added the wild area which gave yet another way to horribly overpower yourself.

IDGAF if these things are optional, I don't WANT the game to have so many ways to overpower yourself because the simple fact they exist means the devs clearly aren't balancing the game around any one playstyle anymore, so having to cherrypick which features to ignore just to make the game fun is retarded

Amie wasn't as gamebreaking as you make it sound. And it was giving an alternative playstyle closer to anime, which many people liked.
Exp Share was there since gen 1, gen 6 just made it easy to get and still optional. Now forcing it as mandatory was indeed a mistake.

Except you have to go out of your way to overlevel like that in the old games. Either by grinding like crazy, or using less than 6 Pokémon. Whenever I play the old games I will always battle all the trainers but generally ignore wild mons, and I end up roughly on par with the gym leaders, give or take a few levels

The difference between gen 1 and gen 6 exp share is that in gen 1 the exp was split between all the party members. Now exp share let's the front mon have max exp and all 5 others get half of that. That's 250% more exp than you'd get per battle compared to old exp share

Actually, playing through sword right now, it all seems oddly balanced. The gym leaders have higher level pokemon and without extra grinding, you should even reach them a little underleveled.

The problem comes from the fact that this is balanced by having less trainer battles and having shorter routes. So each action you take gives you exp, but you can take less actions.

Though, if Pokémon actually wanted to put better effort into the EXP-sharing concept, they would allow for a system that could implement the old EXP share mechanic AND an EXP All option. That exists in Pixelmon, for example

There shouldn’t be options in a game that affect game balance unless it’s a single thing that’s explicitly labeled as easy/medium/hard. All it does is make it annoying to tell how the game is best played because the developer is a bumbling retard who was too lazy to design a game and left it up to the player to do their job instead.

Starters are meant to do that, how do you think 4 year olds beat older pokemon games? Usually without the ability to read, the game isn't made to be super hard, it can provide a challenge if you level up and build a team, but if you are fuck all retarded your starter can just be power leveled. Basically starters are a safety net for babies to be able to beat the game, it only get "harder" when you go out of your way to make a balanced team because no one on your team gets over fed exp, even more so in the case of pokemon like magikarp who are useless and chug exp slowly, but it allows you to play the game in anyway you want you could power level or you could try to balance it out, you could train some fast evolving early game mon, or you could train the useless fish and get rewarded with a powerful beast that can destroy the game thanks to you efforts of training, it has something for everyone to do.
It's what makes pokemon fun, the options of play you have at your disposal, and if you factor in stuff like trading you make a full team of all sorts of pokemon at the start, like breeding for some pokemon next playthrough to see what it's like to use this or that guy, making the replayability limitless.

Do you need a tutorial on how to catch a pokemon every game? I can't imagine you have the brain power to keep that in, maybe a tutorial for how to walk, maybe even remove running from the game? I mean Running is a extra option that might confuse you and make you question what's the best way to play, how would you be able to know when to run and or to walk, it's so fucking complex, God I really hate options or having choice, the next region should just be a line of some sort with no branching pathways, the extra directions might be to much, maybe remove every pokemon? Let's just keep charizard you might not know what pokemon would be the best for the best experience after all, so if I only have charizard, I know I'm playing the game correctly, maybe the game should remove npc's? The option of talking to them might be confusing and you'll get lost and go backwards by mistake, better make it so old areas are locked off to save us from the confusion of it all.

also doesn't really matter because Move did those things in one package, move is more a of modern qol change and isn't comparable to people just not wanting to over level super easily.
Me personally a EXP.Share always being on isn't a "bad" thing as long as it's not overtuned, most RPG's have a exp system like this but, back of the party get decently weak if you never rotate them in the lead, but it still cuts down grinding by a lot because you aren't lv 16 with a lv 50 party, usually end up at 40, so they can still fight even if they are a little squishy but they also get more exp once in the front catching them quickly.
But what you said before deposit and withdraw are still in the game, it's just all in move, so I don't see the point, and it doesn't really effect gameplay because you have those functions still in move, they didn't remove withdraw and make it impossible for you to take out pokemon.

Not really it cut an option off, if anything XY-USUM were did everything, it allowed you to use it for quick grinding and turn it off if you felt like it was making you to strong, you could keep it off if preferred how you grinded exp in older games, or leave it on if you hate grinding, that's an all in one package.
I don't know how removing the options to turn it off allows people to do any of those things above.
Move is just both deposit and withdraw in the same time, permanent Exp.Share isn't both on and off at the same time, it's just on, how does comparing the two work?
It only makes sense if you have Deposit and withdraw in one game, and just make it Deposit the next with no option to withdraw anything, making pc a prison.

What happens when I turn off the exp share in USUM? Be as specific as possible so I can be convinced permanent was the right way to go. I want to know how the game explodes, the equivalent of lowering my jump distance in Sonic, because obviously I can't beat the game without the ability to jump. So turning off the exp share should pretty much brick my game in USUM.
