...Also there's plenty of places with third-string or worse access where a day-one physical copy very well can be an issue, which was a lot of why pre-orders even became a thing because the companies making the product would send a copy *specifically for you*.
Not much a thing now with digital distribution, but it is of historic importance to note why the practice exists.
