Yeah. Going straight to the Crown Tundra will get your ass kicked by Peony but that doesn't matter. He's not a roadblock. You can get to the Max Lair and get yourself a team of Giratina as soon as possible thanks to rental Pokemon and then the entire game becomes a joke.
