>>48254799>And they're bad designs how exactly?Let's start with Lucian, the most distinct trait about him is maybe his suit, but the suit tells you nothing about him outside of that he maybe has money. His character tells no story and gives you no hint to what his typing is (purple = psychic I guess but it could also be poison). His ingame sprite is just him pointing at you, no levitating a Pokeball or anything remotely interesting like other psychics in the franchise. He's simply man in suit with glasses and is utterly unremarkable. We can compare him to Will from GSC, who has the appearance of some kind of jester or performer, which is a more unique take on psychics since it focuses more on the theatrics of what you can do levitating stuff than being some mind reading hardass.
Another character with a similar outfit is Sydney, but Sydney's leering pose and much less stuffy appearance makes me think of a mobster or gambler--someone who has their hands in dirty deals of any variety. It's not much, but he at least leaves a stronger impression than "uh, hes a smart librarian, I guess".
Next up is Bertha, I like her design the most, but she gives you no impression about what kind of character she is or what type she specializes in other than a brown scarf, which is ironically the worst part of her design since it fucks up her otherwise excellent color scheme of white/black/red. Her dialog is simply "nice old lady" too, which feels completely opposite of any and everything ground can represent, especially considering her ace in DP is something as threatening as Hippowdon.
We can compare her to Agatha, who leans 100% on being a batshit crazy old witch/ghost lady, and Drasna, who has a bunch of dragon fangs adorning her, which gives the impression of a kind old lady that settled down after a long history of fierce competition.
Bertha gives you nothing to work with except a brown scarf. She sucks.
