>>48260656>Sure, but teambuilding shouldn't be sacrificed for that to happenBut someone like Aaron gains nothing from having certain Pokemon, if they're going to go with old Pokemon, they might as well go with the best possible options. Route 1 trash that's not even from that generation has no place in the E4.
>Personally I think it's a bit boring if old pokemon aren't usedI'm going to need to strongly disagree with this one, I've fought Gengar hundreds upon hundreds of times, now, once again Gengar is the ace in this new region of new characters and new Pokemon? I hate that Bea and Alister had to run Kantoooo mons just because of G-Max, it does nothing but eat at the identity of the trainers in question because now they need to jump in the crowded boat of "people who used X old Pokemon as their ace". Imagine if every dragon trainer had Garchomp as their ace or something, it'd suck because it'd make Cynthia and Chomp both feel less unique.
> People see Lucian as just Will 2.0 but Will doesn't do anything near as interesting as that. Something as interesting....as type coverage? Your bar is much lower than mine, anon. I'd say trainers that use a certain gimmick are much more interesting than a trainer who has something as basic as type coverage.
Lerona's Watchog is a good example because Watchog is tailor made to put people to sleep with boosted accuracy on Hypnosis, combined with a staggeringly powerful Retaliate that is absolutely going to take out one Pokemon. With a powerful Herdier spamming Take Down as a lead, this setup makes Lerona a nightmare for Nuzlockes and a great boss in general, that's way better than if Lerona was running like...Aerial Ace for your fighting type.
>The flying type trainer you propose would just be like "I use Flying and these are the Flying types of Sinnoh" But that's exactly what most of Sinnoh's E4's team is. Bertha is packing a Hippowdon but her team has no synergy with sandstorm, for example. She could have been way better.
