Playing platinum over 10 years ago, my lvl 70 something Infernape could not beat Bertha's team or Cynthia's Garchomp, so I was stuck with the rest of my team being in the 30s.
But more importantly than that, I learned as I got older that being stupidly over-leveled is fucking boring. It takes the fun of any challenge out of it.
It's like when you the inst-kill skill in persona 5 royal. Every battle after that point became trivial because I could easily become overpowered. It was okay then because there's a ton of things you do outside of battles and over-leveling allows you to do them, but in Pokemon where you only battle, it sours the experience.
