Did it on gen 2 when I was a fucking kid. Body Slam + Solar beam + status moves and I also had a fucking Jumpluff in my team just in case. Beat HGSS of course but that's the inferior version so I don't think it counts.

I remember solo-ing with Feraligatr as a kid. Had a lvl 89 when I beat Red in my first copy of Silver. I'd imagine the same is possible with any of the starters.

Yes it is. Reminder that badge boosts and DVs are a thing. Remember that Chikorita gets swords dance so it just just set up and body slam everything thing to death.
Fuck It’s probably easier to solo the game with Chikorita than Cyndaquil because Cyndaquil doesn’t get swords dance, it doesn’t even get Thunderpunch (the thing that makes Typhlosion good in GSC)

I did a nuzlocke where I didn't evolve Chikorita and it went pretty well before the game crashed on victory road, and I lost the save due to only using savestates, Chikorita's only actual issue is its kind of limited movepool, if it learned Energy Ball naturally I think it'd be good to great. Basically >>48275103 said it, Chikorita isn't hard to use, you just can't win with it abusing STAB, people see a Pokemon that takes half a braincell to use and just go "oh, its worthless".

PvP ruined the main series. Most Pokémon are perfectly useable in game and even shit like Ledian can work with enough patience. The only reason the term “shitmon” is a thing is Game Freak goes out of their why to make PvP as unbalanced as possible to make the Kanto Starters look good. Fucking Pokémon Go is better at balancing than Game Freak.

Maybe not unevolved Chikorita. I don't think it can make it through Red unless you're getting high damage rolls and the opponent gets low ones and you spam items. I don't think GSC are as easy to exploit as RBY.
