>>48275245Same. I’m literally 20 and only played gen 2 on VC starting like 3 years ago, but I genuinely think gen 2 is a major contender for best gen, with it’s only potential rival being gen 3, but for vastly different reasons. It’s just the gen that did the most for the series, it took what was a complete mess in gen 1 and balanced it so fucking well, while adding new features and expanding greatly on those features in the same gen. Day and night cycle? Ok well let’s have that effect wild Pokémon encounters, and also lots of other times events to go along with an additional day of the week system all just to immerse the player into the experience of being a Pokémon trainer. Breeding? Well let’s have Pokémon that can be exclusively obtained through breeding, that also serve as a gate for players trying to chain breed popular Pokémon to balance out their rarity. Oh yea and while we’re at it let’s make every Pokémon have moves that can only be learned by this insane process of passing unique moves through other Pokémon down through breeding. Oh yea and let’s tie it all to the hidden values that determine stats to further cement these stats as being the Pokémon’s own genetics, thus helping them seem even more like living breathing creatures.
Yknow now that I’m saying it, for as excellent as it is, even gen 3 takes a definitive back seat to gen 2, it’s just that revolutionary of a generation.
