How do you guys interpret Victory Road? I see it as a race to see who can get to the League first-- a contest opposed to the tournaments we see in the ashnime. I know this has a shit ton of plot holes (?) but I don't care.

? Post elo, malone, and your own interpretations pls

Johto unfortunately sucked all the soul out of it and that's how it stayed but thankfully based Unova had to show faggots how to do it right

I do appreciate that Alola I think tried something different with Poni Gauntlet as that would normally be the "Victory Road" for people doing the island challenge and then you had Mt. Lanakila afterward but Mt. Lanakila was such a depressingly shitty excuse of a Victory Road, even in USUM.
Then of course Gen 8 didn't even bother to try like everything else in those games.

I mean it should be rather obvious shouldn't it? It effectively acts as a congregation of trainers who have beaten all 8 gyms because of the badge checker, so they train in there, on themselves or on the toughened up wildlife, to prepare for the league challenge.
Now Johto removed all the soul from it and Sinnoh/Hoenn for some reason put the badge check AFTER Victory Road so yes those make absolute fuckall sense, but Kanto/Unova had it down.

Johto had the trainers in the previous routes fill the role of the Victory Road trainers and the absence of trainers is part of the plot, as Silver had already beaten all the trainers. Though I agree that it's probably the worst one. Kanto's Victory Road had pointless strength puzzles similar to the ones in Seafoam Islands, but at least you can catch a Moltres there. Hoenn's Victory Road was very irritating and required too many HMs, but at least it was one of the most, if not the most, challenging Victory Roads. Sinnoh's Victory Road was probably the best one out of the first four regions and even had a reason to go back there in the postgame (Route 224).

I don't dislike gen 2 or even love gen 5 but this is fucking correct, BW gave it back the build up it deserved

It must've been the part before "...to prepare for the league challenge.". After they're done training, do hey all immediately challenge the League? That doesn't make sense. I see VR as a place to weed out the time wasters and leave the one who truly deserves a shot at challenging the League

They don't get "done training". If they were "done training", they'd beat the league. Since they haven't, they're forced to train in Victory Road to get stronger. Do you seriously not understand this?

A tournament is the only way to make sense of it. People don't just stand around in a cave, and the Elite Four don't just stand around in a building all day. The in-game interpretation of the league is very video-gamey and doesn't work in a "real" world.

They're not training, Victory Road is described as being a challenge trainers have to overcome before they reach the League. It's not a training area, it's meant to weed out the scrubs. Everyone there has already collected eight gym badges and proven their worth, all they have to do is make it out of the cave.
