Yes it is. Look at the colour difference between Sceptile and Rillaboom. The Gen 3 Sugi artwork needs to be updated.

But he isn't. He was the lead artist. He used to be the human character designer, but I think that changed in HGSS when he didn't design the Rocket admins (or illustrate them) or the Kanto Gym Leaders (which he did illustrate). He never designed all the Pokémon either. But suffice it to say that he's been appearing less and less since later Gen IV.

Are you really comparing a 3D model to 2D artwork? And what if Sceptile happens to have a lighter shade of green while Rillaboom has a darker shade of green?

He's been involved in every single approval, is who the team hands off for design changes, and to this day makes most every single official mon artwork and a large amount of promo materials, especially for events.

Sceptile isn't lighter than Rillaboom, it's just less saturated. Put Sceptile's artwork in a photo editing program and slide up the saturation to see for yourself.

He doesn't even do all Pokémon art anymore. A lot of them, including Gen VII's, are by Yusuke Ohmura or others. Like Salazzle is Ohmura. The Aether Foundation characters (Lusamine, Faba, Wicke, employees) are done by take, as are the Galar Gym Leaders. Most of the human characters in SwSh aren't by Sugimori (I think he did Hop and Leon at least).

Not him, but no he's not, at least, not anymore. We've known about a group of artists that pass around and approve of designs since Gen 5 (https://web.archive.org/web/20151022192841/http://contests-club.1up.com/news/how-pokemon-get-made), and James Turner is confrmed to have finalized at least one design done by someone else on his own (Bruxish), which means Sugi isn't the only one doing it anymore like in the Gens 1-4 days.

I was on the Gen 3 side until I saw that, but I still think that specific gif could be slightly lighter. Call it cope, but it could also be Game Freak's shit engine and pokemon conversion not working like it should in that setting. The 3DS games were washed out so it wasn't as bad for washed out models, but the new games have contrast and the models should have been changed to account for that.

Sugimori is still involved retard, he's the one who gave the statement that confirms the committee thing, and tons of TCG art is made by him (as well as the human designs). We just can't tell what mons are designed by him as of now without confirmation because of how much his style has changed

I think the Mega Evo artwork for Gens 1 and 3 Pokémon highlights the ways Sugi's style has evolved.

>bolder, higher contrast shadows
>less texture
>flatter shading
They should've just updated the Hoenn artwork in ORAS, and the Kanto artwork in LGPE, to prevent stuff like this from happening, but it's GAME FREAK we're talking about here.
