I get wanting to use a Houndoom earlier, but they had to save some Gen 2 Pokemon for the postgame. Do you want Kanto would be even more barren than it was already?

Admittedly they could have just scraped Kanto, expanded the area around Mount Silver/Silver Cave into an entire mountain range full of trainers and Gen 2 Pokemon and have the post-game dedicated to the player exploring that, but what's done is done. Move on.

It's honestly kinda impressive how much Houndoom gets dicked over in availability throughout the series.

> Post-game in Gen II
> Only available in Emerald's Post-Game or have to get GoD
> Finally catches a break in Platinum
> Immediately gets dicked over by HGSS by making it Post-Game again
> Post-Game in Black only, completely absent from B2W2
> Gets another break in Pokemon X although its Mega Stone is Post-Game and only in Y
> Only appears in Ultra Sun and even then is so late into that game that it's deliberately kneecapping yourself
> Gets culled in SwSh

It's honestly impressive that they almost consistently dick Houndoom over for other Fire-Types when it would at least provide some good type variety, like how many fucking games need half a team's worth of mono-fire, it's the same problem with Electric-Types, it's always the monotypes that get first billing.

Although at least it's not as bad as Venomoth, you wanna talk about getting dicked over hard, few can compare to how bad Venomoth's got it

Kanto should be retconned to have Pokemon from all generations inside the region. If Game Freak ever decides to remake Kanto for the 238674th time, I'd at least want them to include an expanded Pokedex, like what they did with Platinum/BW2/USUM

Coloseum as well for Gen 3 I recall. Remembered that I have one in a Sacred Gold run I put aside, probably jumped at the chance with grasping it. Interesting to see some players guides mention it too, even as late in the game as it is.

Yeah although at least Shroomish has its home generation where it's an early game option, certainly could be better though, Tyrogue absolutely gets dicked over, probably the worst off out of all baby Pokemon although it must be a tricky Pokemon to implement given it's a three-way evolution and always male which means you basically need to facilitate Ditto as well

Houndoom is the perfect early ingame fire type too. Houndour evolves at level 25, it would be great to have instead of something like growlithe, which is available early in so many games.

Not really. Just have it as a wild encounter, like any other Pokemon. Or just change the evolution method

Yeah although Growlithe's usually tempered by the availability of the Fire Stone which if Gen VII Vikavolt has taught us anything is to never underestimate how long GF will blue ball a Pokemon's evolution. That being said yeah, Arcanine, Rapidash, Ninetales, Magmortar, hell even Torkoal as of the last few generations get preferential innings, half expecting Gen IX and X to have Darmanitan appear more often.

If Houndour and Growlithe had swapped places in GS then Houndoom could be used earlier, and Growlithe would be available around the time you could get a Fire Stone to evolve it.

Yeah Gen II evolutionary stones are fucking weird, so many Pokemon are fucked over by not having their stones and instead of swapping the availability of stone evos with Gen II Pokemon they just leave it as is. Chinchou and Remoraid should've been way more common in place of Staryu, Shellder & Poliwag, same with Hoppip over Oddish & Bellsprout. It's kind of ironic that they put Pikachu as Post-game cause it's about the only stone evolution that seems like it's in the right location.

I’m almost certain that they did it that why to encourage players to use the Mystery Gift feature, without it the only stones you get in GS are the ones from showing that guy in Kanto some Pokémon and even then you only get one of each.
