It's been a staple of the games for years now and lgpe doesn't count because it was meant to be a re-entry point for people who played go but haven't played a mainline game in years. Legends seems to be aiming for the diehards who care way too much about this stuff and actually have an interest in the core game. I wouldn't be shocked if we find out down the line that they just couldn't figure out a way to program the abilities and make them work with a new battle system, so they just cut them. It can't just be they deliberately don't want abilities in this game. It's got to be incompetence
