>>48322381In the games, she was just kind of there. She didn't lack character, but she wasn't very prominent. In the anime, she had a great amount of screen time, and as such had plenty of time to develop her character. She was capable of failing, as she wasn't always winning in fights, and she was very much capable of making mistakes, but she always added to the group by being a mix of comic relief and serious support. Unlike the rest of the crew, she didn't have much of an end goal, but that meant she could easily slip in to any role that was needed for the situation. Additionally, when episodes centered around her, they were far more grounded (excluding the Kyogre one), and showed that she was just a normal athletic girl that enjoyed living day by day. She wasn't some chosen one with a legendary pokemon army like Lillie, nor was she someone with a simple design like Mamane. She was on par with Ash in many things too, showing that she was a competent female character that didn't steal the show from the protagonist.
She was, without a doubt, one of the best anime deuteragonists. Her synergy with the entire Alola crew and Ash was excellent, and she was a very welcome character. She was also really cute.
