Also yes you fucking retards forget this is literally the 2nd real hd game from gamefreak and even going full open world. Meanwhile the whole ps3 x360 wiiu era had bunch of problems and these literally make them without big problems.

BotW was ready for 2016 launch, Nintendo intentionally delayed it to port. Launched in 6, made in 5 though (which is the mean for Zelda team, IIRC).

It is surprising that 20 years later, Game Freak was still completely incapable of optimization. But since that already happened, it should not be surprising that this is still the case another 1 year later.

The games break records and sell millions even with the current objectively shit quality we've been getting for over a decade.

There is literally no fucking reason to put more effort into a series aimed largely at children when kids, parents and manchildren will consume the product regardless of how bad it is. I guarantee there will not be a noticeable increase in effort and overall quality until it is required to win back a fanbase that wakes the fuck up.

Sadly this isn't really one of those problems you solve by throwing more people at it, 10 monkeys won't do the job of a human better than 5 monkeys, they'll just cause more chaos
They'd need to outsource it all to a more competent studio

It is. Their refusal to increase size and the short time frames they have to work with basically ensure this is the quality they're going to continue to push out.

sure, time woukld mean there's more iterations to go through and a more polished product but in this case I doubt that the game would have looked any better, probably just have a better performance

Given how short their development cycle is? It absolutely is something that can be fixed with more people. I don't think you understand the scope of what they're trying to accomplish with so few people and a 1-2 year development cycle. That's fucking low for anyone.

It doesn't matter how skilled your work force is. You're not going to have 800+ high definition models with unique animations for a majority of their move pools. It's simply not going to happen through skill. That's the kind of shit that requires raw man hours.

Do you not understand just how few employees Game Freak has? Most recent number I'm seeing is 167 as of some point in 2021. That's fucking abysmal and it's not even taking into consideration we know they split their numbers to work on side projects. AAA games these days typically have 400-500+ people working on them and often times it's over a 3-5 year period. Game Freak is taking their paltry 167, splitting it between different projects and trying to churn out a new Pokemon game every 1-2 years. They need more man hours to improve the quality to any significant degree. That much is not up for debate.

MonolithSoft managed to make XBX with roughly 120 people and XB2 with a third of that

Planning for XB2 began at the end of 2014, but when full scale development actually took place, two thirds of the whole team got "borrowed" by EAD to help with BotW
So they made that game on a skeleton crew of 40 in roughly two years and a half, and during development both UX people quit and the UI guy had to take charge, which also explains why the UX in that game is horrid
But all that aside, they did a fuckton with a lot less

Just got DBZ Kakarot for the Switch and it's actually running well. I honestly don't understand how this game can do open biomes better than Legends will yet graphically is so much busier and has so much more going on. I can have an entire area in view and not drop frames and graphically it hasn't been compromised that much. It looks so much better than Legends yet it's probably just some side project Bamco had on the backburner.

Masuda specifically stated he likes working with a smaller team, and TPCI ensures that each game gets maybe 3 years of dev time at most. Small team + short dev cycle results in mediocre games. Fun, but not as good as they could be. McDonalds has the same principle, the appeal of fast food is that it’s fast and mediocre. If McDonald’s spent 20 minutes and used better equipment, you’d get a better burger, but then why wouldn’t you just go to Applebee’s or Outback? Pokémon gets out a game a year with an intentionally small team. Short delivery time, small effort, mediocre product. It’s not desirable but it works and it works well.
