Yes, I would be okay if the smartphone was designed to look like a magic relic instead of a modern item that I could buy right now at a phone store, encased in a cartoony pokemon case.

Compare this thing's design to the tablet in zelda breath of the wild and you can see how much better Zelda handed the idea of a tablet/device that feels like a mystical item. No one is claming it has to make sense, Pokemon will never make sense, it is a series where peopel can be electrocuted by living power batteries without dying, but the visual flavor has to fit the setting or else it looks tacky and effortless.

So they can shill Rotom even more. Honestly it is funny to me, in Diamond and Pearl Rotom was a post-game mon that could not breed even with Ditto, it wasn't a legendary but it might as well be. In Platinum they changed it so it can breed with Ditto and gave it a bunch of forms, in Gen V they buffed it by now giving it a type change for each form. Fast forward to today where it now can talk, doesn't fuck off, and can now be easily captured in the wild.

In BotW, apart from being inspired by the Wii U GamePad, the Sheikah Slate and ancient technology found throughout the game was inspired by the Jomon era of Japan. It was considered a very mysterious era where not a lot remained to be studied, but what did remain was fascinating in how complex it was. Legends Arceus is more inspired by the Meiji era.

The reason why Zelda's tablet works is because it's at the end of the timeline 10,000 years later and there's nothing in the future implying how technology progressed. A better comparison would be Fi since she works like some sort of android and it's at the very beginning of the timeline.
