The pacing and mystery is much better done in dp. Gameplay doesn't follow predictable next city equals next gym formula. I don't know why they changed that on platinum.
Aesthetics are more theme fitting. Something about the platinum world looks way off. The region looks shiny new and not ancient anymore.
The slow battles have more impact in dp. This is major thing in game desing. Better pacing delivers and rewards more the player. This is essential in rpg combat to make it meaningful.
The main thing is that you're on your own journey.
This is the biggest selling point in dp. You're not following around some plot characters and be their Deus ex machina to save the day. In dp no one asks you to move. You face the world because your own reasons.
