don't grind and use 6 pokemon at all times

Why didn't people just use the free Female Machop literally designed to counter Miltank? Or the Onix or Geodude they could have caught on the way there? Or any Pokemon with any paralysis or sleep-inducing move? I never had problems with Whitney even as a kid.

It’s like idiots who say choosing Charmander is hard mode in RB when you can easily get him up to level 14 or higher against all the Bug types in Viridian Forest before facing Brock.
