Pokemon games should have come in 3s, and the starting pokemon was the one on the cartridge. So choosing the game really felt like choosing a starter pokemon irl.

I agree that box legends are retarded, but so are multiple versions. There should be one main release in each gen followed by some spinoffs like Mystery Dungeon and a direct sequel like BW2 if they want another core game.

Multiple versions made sense in the mid-90s to encourage people to trade with their friends.
But it became outdated the moment you could trade with the world at large online.

That would have made it very difficult for players to keep track of.

Do what the games already do, and limit the amount to a meager handful of Pokémon that have counterparts. That way, if your game has a Bellsprout, for instance, it won't have Oddish.
Also, on top of all the other things the game expects players to learn on their own, are a few missing dex mons really that much of a stretch?
