Obviously no one goes in buying packs thinking this is the best way to pull the exact cards they want. And booster boxes should be something reserved for unique circumstances -- the greatest of which being that you acknowledge the fact that it is poor money spent, and that you are unlikely to get what you want.
However, if one is okay getting whatever, will not be financially burdened by the price, and thoroughly enjoys opening packs (even greater if this thrill is shared with another person), then a booster box can be a bunch of fun. In fact, I'd reckon that Evolving Skies is a solid set to grab a booster box for because there are so many Ultra/alt/secret/chase cards. There's likely going to be one or two that you pull in a box that you'll like, even if it isn't your most desired. And the likelihood of getting doubles is low since there are so many ultras.
But yes, I recognize that purchasing a booster box is a silly purchase. A fun one nonetheless that is purely luxury.
