How would you feel about this idea for a generation gimmick:
Game Freak introduces 4 brand new types. But, these types are only on Pokemon accessed via transformations, like Mega Evolutions, and these transformations exist to change the Pokemon's appearance to match this type.
Perhaps call them Ultra-Types, and tie them to the Ultra Beasts/Wormhole shit. Like, they are types that exist on Pokemon in alternate dimensions.
I haven't really thought about what the types could be yet, but imagine something like 'Ancient Type' and it transforms, say, Venusaur into a much more prehistoric-looking form- larger trees and mushrooms like a Paleozoic forest, more pronounced dinosaur-esque features.
Idk. Just thinking of some things. I think the concept of adding new types is cool but hard to fit into the game as it is, since it would change up the balance so drastically and each type has to be massively future proofed. Plus, this would let GF make more abstract/experimental types that wouldn't necessarily work on their own otherwise.
