Fewer mons were only bad of that made them easier, which wasn’t the case in BW, especially with type specialists with better AI and better put together team strategies
Kalos did nothing to balance out the trainer difficulty.

Kalos was too fucking easy compared to BW. You’re too desperate to make them seem like the same game. They are, in fact, polar opposites.

No matter where you set the bar, Unova type specialists will always be harder than Kalos ones.

I dont get it but if they wanted to keep them with 3 pokemon, they should at least make it like the anime and have the player be limited to using the same amount of pokemon in the battle by choosing the pokemon before the battle.

They're all better than Kanto Leaders.

No clue about LGPE but Giovanni's entire team goes down to Surf, and I suppose any other Water-type move of around similar power, which, given the abundance of Water-types in Kanto are easy to access.

The idea is that given their better moves and the newer mechanics like the Physical/Special split, the new Gym Leaders are intrinsically more difficult than their predecessors, and to offset this, they have fewer Pokemon. Whether that works out or not is up for debate, but let's not act like something is being lost here. The only decent set of Gym Leaders have been the Gen 4 Gym Leaders. And that's as a set. I'd argue the only hard final Gym Leader is maybe Juan.
