We had Blastoise which was a kick ass cannon turtle. Feraligatr was a fucking croc that was awesome looking. Mudkip is a classic meme and Swampert slapped ass. Empoleon wasn't incredible, but it was still a fucking armored penguin.
Meanwhile, grass has only been bad in gen 6 and fire only really had a bad streak with 5 and 6.
I swear gen 6 is the only gen where on a first playthrough I boxed my starter
