I've been wanting to play through HG and Platinum recently, but I can't think of a team that I want to put together that isn't incredibly cookie-cutter.

Me. When I first got dratini, I leveled her every chance I get. This is because Dragonite line are quite rare in-game and it was just a cool thing to have.

most the pseudo's 2nd stages are pretty fun to use in a normal playthrough. I had the time of my life trading over a Bagon and Beldum to an Emerald game.

Same. The johto dex sucks so bad and holds the game back. Teddiursa, Phanpy, and to an even greater degree Houndour, being available so late really makes things bad. I don't want to use the same shitters every johto run, but than do they not leave you with many options.
