I actually really liked Serena as a companion and her being romantically involved with Ash actually felt unique when compared to all the other female companions before her who were all Misty clones.

The only reason that Serena is still brought while Latias isn't is because Serenafags don't realize that she was never intended to return after her finale while Latiasfags fully understand the state of their character. Of course it still exist lmao, it's the only one with any long-term chance of happening solely because she's the only potential ship where the female half isn't completely irrelevant. I don't give a shit if they don't constantly hint at it every time she returns since the only real objective the writers would have for a long-term ship in an never-ending show like Pokemon is to just keep both halves of the ship relevant, which they do with Misty and don't with Serena.

It absolutely is not, both characters had their arcs with Ash definitely ended in the same one-sided fashion for the same exact reason: because they were never meant to return. She's just Latias with more screen time.

How the fuck is Misty irrelevant? She was just in four episodes and a movie just last gen, and she'll probably appear next year in PM for the anime anniversary, just like she did with SM. It completely tanked compared to Yokai Watch and was the primary catalyst of the show's dramatic switch in tone.

No it wouldn't. They have done absolutely nothing to suggest that she doesn't still have feelings for him, so it's not dead. For fuck sake we went almost all of Johto without a hint from Misty until she got jealous of Macy, Pokeshipping went long periods of time without much of a hint even when she was ON the show.

No they didn't. It's still very much targeting the same age group, there's less continuity, Ash still acts mostly the same. They only dropped a few elements like the school-like setting, otherwise it's still far more like SM than XY.

Agree. X&Y is set in Pokémon France, with Paris at the center. Since Paris is known for love and romance, this was the perfect season to inject some romance into the anime.
