This was worse than the dexcut. Fishing has to be the stalest (overworld) mechanic in the entire series despite being one the most fun aspects in other franchises not dedicated to collecting creatures.

How? Limited fishing makes fishing much less tedious. And fishing in rippling spots gives Pokémon increased encounter rates and sometimes gives rare Pokémon too. And sometimes you get rare valuable items like big pearls or prism scales.
