I get Pt/HG/SS though. I don't feel they had any more content than BW, but then again, maybe I just lost interest as a child and didn't bother with the whole second region thing as much as I should've, or... I didn't actually own gen 4 as a kid, I'm only about a quarter of the way through, I'm not liking how slow the battles are though, even with battle animations off.

Like seriously, I'll talk Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos, Muk and Grimer, Magneton, all of the baby Pokemon introduced for Gen 1 Pokemon in Gen 2, BURMY... This is a pretty valid complaint for most generations.
The middle stages were mostly a result of attempting to redo the 151 for a new region, so that's understandable that it's not particularly great, but there's plenty of 2 stage and non-evolving Pokemon too. Sawsbuck and Zoroark immediately come to mind, but there are others like Darmanitan that I never liked because I was afraid of it.

Unless he managed to somehow strike D20-type luck the entire time he was writing it, there's pretty much nothing that can be rebuked there, because it lines up with what we know otherwise and what we eventually got 5 years later.
