What's important is that it was a fun middle Evo and it's final is literally Tentamon which is cool.

This is the big problem I have with so many SwSh designs. They look like the artists skipped the concepting stage entirely, starting their creation process by plonking one of the default shapes down in Blender and fucking around until they got something that sort of looked like a Pokemon. Like Carkoal's eyes which are clearly just a single pair of vertices thoughtlessly stretched to the top of the head. Or this guy, something just screams to me that the geometric object came first before the concept.

It literally looks like it was designed normally and then stretched using a transform tool. The weird spikes everywhere, the legs/arms that are too small to actually be used to move, etc. It's easily the worst designed pokemon of the gen, if not the game

there's nothing wrong with it conceptually, it's just that it looks like it should have a circular head/eyes
it's like looking at an image that's been horizontally squished, your brain tries to "correct" the image and overworks itself
Blipbug gives me a headache if I look at it for too long because of that, it's stupid and they should fix it

Dottler kinda works because its supposed to be the "cocoon" stage and its based on a real thing. Putting it inside a literal doppler radar is a bit on the nose, but overall I think it works.
I agree with the sentiment, though. A lot of gen 8 designs (Stonjourner, Indeedee, etc.) are way too smooth/clean and they look more like toys than Pokemon.
