Why is Onix literally just a sidegrade to GEODUDE??? What were Gamefreak THINKING back in gen 1? Doesn't help that Steelix is still a shitmon

The only retarded thing is all the people unfairly criticizing the balancing of Pokemon while forgetting to take into account that it's an RPG with progression, it's designed as an adventure and not Smogon autism.

this is why for example Onix is weak, because it's a Boss Pokemon, and why there's alot of other weak Pokemon, because they fit into earlygame progression, when you take this into account, Game Freak is actually good at balancing

You didn’t address his point what so ever.
Geodude is literally stronger than Onix, both of which are on Brock’s team, yet Geodude is considered just a regular enemy and Onix is the boss.

The entire premise of “Boss” Monsters as an argument doesn’t hold up when you consider that Onix can be any level, so making it shit lategame has no excuse.

There is literally nothing wrong with designing Pokemon to be good bosses that are not too overwhelming for their point in the game, there are plenty of examples of this, and Onix is actually a sidegrade or arguably a bit better even than Geodude because while its' attack is worse, it's also physically tankier and much faster

You are still avoiding the entire point.
Not only does Geodude have more power than Onix, even being 2 levels lower, but if you DIDN’T want to overwhelm the player with a buffed Onix that has significantly higher Atk, then just adjust Onix’s movepool and levels.
Would it really have been hard to have Onix learn Bind at a later level? Or put it at a level where it wouldn’t be too hard to beat?

Cranidos also makes for a good first boss
It's a one note glass cannon that tests the players ability to exploit weaknesses in an opponents stat spread and move pool as well as it's typing
