1) The starters, it’s obvious than Game Freak hated the Johto starters. Meganium gets none of the utility moves most grass/flower mons get and was stuck with the worst ability in the game that isn’t an actual nerf like Truant. Typhlosion has the most barren movepool of any starter (it doesn’t even get boosting moves for fuck sake). Feraligatr is close to being good it stats spread is too lack luster to ever be OU. Meanwhile the Kanto starters get fucking everything.
(ironically I think Meganium was better than Venusuar in OU during iGen 2) but that was obviously a fluke because Game Freak made sure it would never be worth a damn the very next Gen)
2) The weak Pokémon in Johto are so insulting useless it had to have been out of malice. Ledian is the worst bug type, Sunkern had the lowest BST of any Pokémon until Gen 7 but Sunflora is a joke despite being a stone evolution. Unown has the exact opposite of a signature move as it’s only move. Ledian is Ledian. Then there’s Delibird, to put it in perspective how bad it is, Farfetch’d’s entire concept is being weak but it has a higher BST, better abilities, and even its own signature item.
3) Baby Pokémon: many made sense since the Pokémon they evolve into are reasonable strong, and Tyrogue even completes the Hitmon family. But stuff like igglybuff and cleffa are objectively worthless because the Pokémon they evolve into already look like babies. They literally add nothing to the series but to make Gen look weaker and add fuel for the shitposters.
>40% of Smogon's GSC OU tier was made up of Gen 2 PokemonThis is tehcnailh true, but in practice GSC OU was 98% Snorlax because Game Freak lost their minds and made it nearly 2x as specially bulky as it was in Gen1 even
though.it was already one of the most broken Pokémon in RBY.
