It's just too simple of a design for me to properly enjoy it. There's merit to it, I just don't like those types of designs.
Feels like something I could've come up with in two minutes, and that's saying something because I'm uncreative enough to the point I have decided Command and Conquer and Pokemon would make a great crossover.

Maybe because it's a leaf and it uses its mandibles to make everything, and the arms are just for basic manipulation?

It's because most of them are actually not the typical route 1 shitter for once. Scolipede even actually got a buff in gen 6 with Speed Boost and a +10 to Attack (a relevant stat which is rare because the +10 usually goes to an irrelevant stat).
