In almost all cases Gamefreak lost their ability to handle elevation and layers in dungeons where they were able to do these in XY and ORAS just fine although the latter was a remake. I blame Ohmori, for allegedly being a map designer he doesn't seem to know shit about routes.

More and more I've been thinking about rather than them doing these basic bitch 3D games as a concession like with LGPE and BDSP where it's really bad, they should instead make a game in the a style similar to Octopath Traveler so they aren't wasting time on minimizing the amount of autists that are going to complain about the textures on the trees. Gen 5 remakes would be a perfect game to test this on since they were basically already made in that style over a decade ago before it was ever a thing.
