The Kanto references are all on purpose, it was meant to be a celebration of old things and welcoming both old and new audiences and show them (and revel in) the series origins
>Gift Pokemon badThis will always be a non complaint, box the mon, the game even gives you a daycare early so that you can breed that Lucario if you don't want to use it, and you can do that to the Kanto starter too
>Mega stonesDon't use them, barely any AI opponent does
>Few legendariesThat is actually good, adding 8 legendaries per game is a bit of overkill and you can still have the Version Mascot and your extra Legend in the game
