>>48443484Gen 7. Aliens that were not revealed to be Pokemon yet could be story-only bosses and looked like revealed human characters. It's after it released and destroyed all the optimism and hype everyone built up that people rightfully hated the video game gameplay. ULTRA CHANGES released as two games instead of a 3rd version and it was what the game should have released as a year previously, but removed the main story fight everyone liked.
Before Gen 8 was revealed, Ishihara said Gen 8 would have a different artstyle to previous games. Finally it's going to look different than the 3DS games with reused models we've been seeing from October 2013 to this upcoming February 2019 reveal!

All the objects look jagged like the stone fence not connecting to the slightest incline on the path. The character artstyle looks similar to the full-sized characters used previously, and in later trailers you could see the plug and play motions used on characters in the 3DS games. Dexcut was a non-issue compared to the footage shown on the same day.
Quite literally none of this matters when Gloria has the most fanart of any girl within only 2 years. It doesn't matter how it's allowed to be reported this way but the fact is places say the games have collectively sold over 20 million which will be a damning piece of information for anyone trying to explain the mainline games should be held to a higher standard such as Odyssey.
tl;dr Gen 6 was the anticipated first 3D mainline game with a bad story, Gen 7 was the anticipated first break away from the gym leader formula with too much stopping for character dialog in hallways, and Gen 8 had nothing to speculate before release.
