Of all the videos to be the most viewed on the Pokemon Channel, it's the Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire trailer? And it's leading the next most viewed by a whopping 20 million. Hoenn in general seems to have a lot of views, is it more popular than once thought? You'd think the most viewed would be Kanto related stuff.

I was here back when Hoenn confirmed was a rampant meme and I have to ask why? After FRLG and HGSS it'd be pretty obvious that Hoenn would get a remake too one day. Was there doubt that it'd ever actually happen or did the "Hoenn Confirmed" spam generate enough hype and anticipation from meme value alone?

Then you probably missed the proto-schizo posting that spawned the meme.
The fact that it spread to facebook normies who had no idea why it was a thing is just a testament to how big a deal it was when it was confirmed, I remember reading the video in OP got something like 20m views in 24 hours.

Because back then GBA games were perfectly serviceable, still are, so people didn't think a remake was needed. They weren't outdated relics from the gameboy era that didn't even have color like gen 1 and gen 2.
See, there's the thing. Many of the things people think are "normal" for the franchise now, like expecting a remake every generation, or hell, the concept of generations, were things that got established as time passed and went on and the franchise became more and more standarized. Why do you think things like BW2 or that there was no Z and we went straight into Gen 7 were met with such shock?

That because it was the "default video" for the channel for years, as in when anyone viewed the channel profile that video would autoplay, netting millions of views by accident.
